Dear Friends and Fellow Kossacks,
I've been on hiatus for a few months, since the election, an absence for which I apologize. Life busied me with many pressing concerns, which needed my full attention. I've missed hanging around here, and posting.
However, tonight, on this the eve of one of the most historic occasions in our nation's history, I wanted to share with you my letter to the editor, which ran last week in both of my local papers, the Eugene (Oregon) Register-Guard and the Eugene Weekly, and today in USA Today.
What follows is the original version, printed in full locally. Though the body of the letter was left mostly intact by the editors of USA Today, through the editing process its poetic heart was regrettably carved out. Nevertheless, to have my ode to Obama's inauguration published in the nation's most-read newspaper on the eve of this historic event swells my heart with pride.
